In modern days it’s to be prepared more than just bringing belt and shaker bottle. There is an old saying that there is no such bad weather, it’s just that you forget your umbrella. Being prepared is half the battle when it comes to anything in life whether it is starting the day or achieving the goals.
Ill preparation would not lead you to anywhere fast and this applies very well to the situation when you are packing your gym bag and heading out to the gym. No one ever has everything that is required for making each and every workout successful.
Below are 13 essentials items when it comes to gym bags. You must be prepared for any workout or routine change or bad weather for that matter.

Do you take ample rest between the reps and how long rest do you take? This all is based on assumptions if you don’t carry a watch. It also cuts the peering into gym clock from far distance. Also it leads to correct rest timings between exercises and reps.
Digital is way too easy just glace at seconds. Don’t think keeping a close eye on time will make any difference but you will be surprised.
Every gym has water fountain, so why carry a water bottle? It is mainly for two reasons: first it might lead to contamination and you can get ill. Other reason is that with that water you might gulp some air as well. This creates problem in muscles and you might not be able to lift weights.
It is important to keep tracking your training. It helps you in knowing the improvements and other parameters of training. You may keep lifting same weights week after week or months after months. Note this down and keep improving upon these numbers every month.
· Baseball or Tennis Ball
Prehab is not any new training word. It’s actually much better and needed for potentially better performance and healthier joints and overall mobility health. Rolling the major muscle groups especially the one you are about to train which results in loosening of the tight muscles.
If serious gains are on you’re to do list, then you must carry it. It also speeds up the recovery process and there is no tension of you reaching home on time. Whether you are using one or not, carry a clean one in the bag.
What’s the use of shaker without anything to shake? So, you must carry a pack of generous serving of whey protein powder. There is one precaution to be kept in mind: protein should not be pre mixed. It should be mixed with water after training. Shake & gulp. Having pre mixed whey can denature it.
· Music & Headphones
Workouts should have some music to go with if you are that type. It doesn’t mean phone. Phone diverts your mind and you should keep it aside. If all music is in phone then it should be kept aside on silent mode.
Belt always comes handy whether you use it or not. You never know when your exercise requires heavy squat or any harsh exercise. It shouldn’t be used for every exercise on every lift.
· Combo Lock
Gyms seem messy if the bags are spread here and there in the walkways or against an equipment. It doesn’t give a good impression. So get yourself a locker to store the bag. Be sure to have a good combination of lock to have peace of mind.
· Hand Sanitizer
Living things on every square inch of gym can be disturbing for many. So you need to protect yourself. Frequent hand wash after every restroom break or before leaving the gym is not only for protection of others as well as for one’s health as well. Get a hand sanitizer for the sake of saving time and protecting yourself.
· Wrist Straps
Like belt described above, writ straps can be an indispensable tool as well. It is used to assist the grip during heavy pulling exercises, it can help in squeezing out one or more reps during an exercise. Also it serves as an added protection for joints.
If you are coming straight from the workplace then don’t forget the pre workout snack. Whether it’s a pre-workout shake, a protein bar, a piece of fruit, or something else full of carbs or lean proteins.
Not a necessity but something to have in a bag. If you have bad hair or want to protect hair or want to give some funky look. Toss one cap into the bag.
Some non-essential items that can also be carried in a bag are shower gel, deodorant, shaving kit and many more.
